Australia Exchange

“The people are immensely likeable— cheerful, extrovert, quick-witted, and unfailingly obliging. Their cities are safe and clean and nearly always built on water. They have a society that is prosperous, well ordered, and instinctively egalitarian. The food is excellent. The beer is cold. The sun nearly always shines. There is coffee on every corner. Life doesn't get much better than this.” [Bill Bryson, In a sunburnt country]

In September 2017, John-Lennon-Gymnasium started a cooperation with University High School in Melbourne, Australia, making it possible for selected year 10 students to experience life and culture in the world’s most liveable city.

Besides attending Melbourne’s most sought after public high school and having the opportunity to test and improve their language skills the students will most definitely have a great time during their stay - enjoying the hot summer weather, beaches, barbecues and incredibly welcoming “Aussies". The exchange in 2019 will start in late January with the German students travelling to Melbourne. Returning to Berlin in early April the Australian exchange partners will follow a week later staying eight to ten weeks with their German host families.

Students in year 9 who are interested in participating in the exchange in 2019 are asked to hand in a formal application in English by the end of this school year to Mr Bergmann. Please do not forget to include a passport picture. There will be further information about the application process, general organisation and school during a meeting in April of this year which everyone is more than welcome to attend. The table below includes the most important dates regarding the exchange. If you have any further questions or remarks do not hesitate to contact me (brg@jlgym-berlin.de).

Kind Regards

B. Bergmann
